Dual Food Facility - Ft. Irwin, CA |
|
BIS Frucon served as the design subcontractor to Centennial Contractor Enterprises (CCE) for this project. The design entailed functional programming and planning, conceptual design development, and construction design documents for a dual food facility prototype located at the Fort Irwin Military Reservation. Coordination of user needs and a strong interface with the military client was a prime requirement of this DOD task order. The design included site development, utility relocations, roadway and parking lot facilities, building and foundations, equipment layout and coordination, HVAC, electrical, and fire protection systems. Project challenges included site traffic circulation for two drive thru windows (one for each restaurant), and design of a drainage channel to convey the infrequent but large storms which occur in this arid region.
The design also included the development of several value engineering and “Sustainable Design” items that reduced the design and construction cost by approximately 10-15%. The drawings were developed utilizing Microstation Version 8.5. Construction phase and quality assurance services were also provided. BIS Frucon participated in a design charrette involving the user agency and the owner.
