1872 - Fruin & Co. General Contractors founded in St. Louis, Mo.

1940 - Fruco Engineers Inc. established

1978 - Bilfinger Berger AG purchases 50% of Fru-Con Corporation

1984 - Bilfinger Berger AG assumes full ownership and name changes to Fru-Con Construction Corporation

1989 - Fruco Engineering Inc. changed to Fru-Con Engineering Inc.

2003 - Fru-Con acquires Centennial Contractor Enterprises Inc.

2008 - Bilfinger Berger Industrial Services assumes ownership of Fru-Con Engineering Inc. and changes name to BIS Frucon Engineering Inc. 

BIS Frucon Engineering Inc. reflects on a company history that began 135 years ago, when Jeremiah Fruin, the son of an Irish contractor, founded "Fruin & Company General Contractors" in St. Louis, MO in 1872.

In 1900, Jeremiah Fruin took his son-in-law Redmond S. Colnon, who had joined the company in 1892 as a young engineer, into partnership, and the company changed its name to "Fruin-Colnon Contracting Company." The following decades were characterized by constant growth and extension of the company's field of activities.  The Engineering department was added in 1901.

1940 brought a considerable expansion of the company's operations. On November 26, 1940, the company implemented a full-service strategy that initiated the establishment of Fruco Engineering, the forerunner of Fru-Con Engineering Inc. as a subsidiary company. 

The Company served project owners and its sister company under design and construction contracts and assisting the construction company in providing single-source engineering / procurement / construction services to its clients. During this time, engineering focus was placed on industrial projects. During the post-war years, Fru-Con flourished and successfully built a reputation for quality services in the chemical, petrochemical, paper, pharmaceutical, cement, government and food industries.

In 1984 Bilfinger Berger AG assumed full ownership of Fru-Con and renames the company Fru-Con Construction Corp.  Bilfinger Berger AG was established in 1975 through the merger of three construction companies, each with its own long tradition.

On January 1, 2008, Bilfinger Berger Industrial Services, a subsidiary of Bilfinger Berger AG, assumed ownership of Fru-Con Engineering Inc. and changed its name to BIS Frucon Engineering Inc.  This realignment places a focus on Service and provides a clear role as an autonomous engineering firm specializing in specific market sectors.
